Teaching Philosophy

My teaching is grounded in the balance between discipline and curiosity. Strong fundamentals—such as posture, tone production, intonation, and rhythmic accuracy—form the foundation of all meaningful musical growth. I emphasize consistent, mindful practice habits and clear technical understanding, helping students develop the tools they need to become independent learners.

At the same time, I strive to nurture each student's personal connection to music. Expression, creativity, and emotional engagement are not secondary to technique but integral to it. I encourage students to explore phrasing, tone color, and interpretation early in their studies, fostering confidence in their musical voice.

I view the teacher-student relationship as a collaborative partnership. Open communication, goal-setting, and mutual respect create an environment where students feel supported and motivated. Whether a student is preparing for auditions, playing for personal enjoyment, or exploring music for the first time, I tailor my instruction to align with their aspirations.

Performance is an essential part of musical development. I provide opportunities for students to share their work in both formal and informal settings, helping them build confidence, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment.

Ultimately, my goal is not only to teach the cello, but to equip students with skills that extend beyond music: patience, discipline, creativity, and self-expression. By fostering both technical excellence and a genuine love of music, I aim to inspire students to carry music with them throughout their lives.
